Anyone using Benchmark abrasives?

Anyone? How do you like them?

Have any trouble with the labels coming off?

Once that happens you don’t know what grit you have

Or disc not being flat?

The disc in the pics had was almost wore out and still was not hitting all the way around.

Its not a grinder problem as I have tried them on all 5 I have

I tried a few flap discs with a similar label. I wasn’t impressed .I have found I can pay 12 bucks for a flap disk and get way more service out of them.

As for grinding rock I like the tiger brand fairly well. flap discs I have been buying norton red heats. Some times the labels wear off. I have a variable speed grind I usually turn the rims down on flappers.

It’s all I use, then again I don’t grind as much since customers actually want my welds to be visible (even though I offered to hide them).

In my opinion they work well, and I’ve had them in my inventory for the last 3 or so years.

I use the benchmark flap discs a lot. I have them in 40 and 80 grit flat and taper. Seem to get good wear out of them for the cost. Yes the labels come off but I mark them with a sharpie or paint pen so I know what they are.

Had to check the garage, but here’s a pretty used one on one of my grinders at the moment.

I only use flap discs.

(Disregard the comment about the grinding discs, you were asking about uneven wear).

Same feedback as others. I feel they are good value for the usage I get from them. The labels due tend to fly off though.

I reached out to Benchmark awhile back, Jack said he had not had any other compalints about the disks not being flat and he would dig into it. That was several months ago. I sent another Email again and will see what happens. I do seem to get a Email every few days about some new sticker or something

What is the cost for a grind rock? I think the tiger brand we get from Fastenal is around 4 bucks each maybe. I just looked for a old invoice I don’t have one.

I usually use a 9 inch grinder for flat grinding. Most of our 4 inch grind work is for either crack removal or weld prep. Those flap discs I tried was useless for my needs seems they couldn’t be laid flat to polish a flat surface. It’s like they” negative rake” on them. At work we use them to polish a surface that isn’t critical but looks a lot better when polished.

What is a grind rock?

It’s not you. It’s a disconnect between regions I would say.

I was curious what you are paying for the grinding discs. Them being out of balance as bad as you say they could explode or break apart. That could ruin ones day in a hurry.

yea, labels always fly off on the ones I’ve got. I always mark the grit / material (if dedicated for SS, for example) on the top side with a silver sharpie.

the vibration so bad and I have had them catch on break a chunk off but never explode. They have never even came close. They are like a buck each

Edit: That should have read “the vibration is not to bad”

I haven’t ever heard that term as it relates to a grinding disc either… but I kinda like it. :+1:

Damn, what kind of work are you doing to use them often?

I can see why they are so cheap .. Be careful a unbalanced disc in the right condition can be dangerous. They are considered a no no at work when they become chipped or severely unbalanced.

I build Architectural stuff, I not sure what you mean often. I use them for equipment repairs also.

I guess I use them as much as needed.
