Always busy making dumb mistakes......Torch moves before firing error (Solved)

I find it valuable when people post their mistakes, even maybe more so than thier triumphs.

Well this weekend I was cutting out some parts, when all of a sudden my torch stopped firing.

I got a message that read something like “Torch moving before voltage is sensed”

It seemed very odd, and I tried 're-firing" the torch a few times, but nothing worked.

I decided to give the machine a “once over” looking for loose wires/ bad connections.

I opened up the “main box” and made sure the THC chip was seated properly but could not see anything that stood out.

I decided to throw the code/error into this site, and BAM, just like that I got a few hits.

It turns out, I forgot to throw the “on switch” for my compressor, so it ran out of compressed air and thus created my problem.

I threw the switch, let it build pressure, and was off to the races once again!

Just an inspirational story, for those frustrated few.

Your example is a good one because it points out that if you keep a level head about it, you will probably figure it out.

I usually panic first and then calm down to solve it. I wish I could eliminate the panicking step. :man_shrugging:

I usually have a similar problem as you Jim.

My original thought was that I have just hooked up my THC, so that must have been the problem, hence opening the “main box”.

It took a little while, and honestly without this forum as a “sounding board” I would have wasted an embarrassing amount of time “troubling shooting” a “self inflicted” mistake.

LOL! I often forget to turn on my compressor before doing any woodworking since it isn’t an obvious part of the process. The classic symptom is that my thickness planer fills with chips and starts spitting them all over the place! My blast gates are pneumatically operated…
