Air Compressor Question

You need to check the reed valve plate. You probably have a broken reed petal.

If the sheave was slipping that bad you would hear it. There has to be something else wrong

Sure it didn’t have a key? Not doubting you it could have been a clean break. I would be shocked if a pulley taking that kind of load wasn’t keyed but who knows these days.I just checked I have a spare pulley for my compressor it is a tapered fit that is keyed. Also most Stihl chainsaw have a tapered mag they are keyed as well. I have seen them brake off pretty clean.

It’s actually quieter now than it was before I have the bolt pretty tight.

Didn’t see it both sides were smooth but it might idk. I was just trying to get it back together to see if it was locked up. My son in law has a porter cable that looks identical to the dewalt in every way except the pump and the current dewalt is different too. I’m thinking they use what they can get. I’ll pull it off and have a look.

I decided not to pull it back off but I looked at the shaft all the way around and there’s no sign of a keyway protruding from the pulley. I would think there would be a little bit of it showing. The pump has a life expectancy of a 1000 hours which I didn’t know about when I bought it. Most pumps have a 50,000 hour life. I’ll bet those have a keyway.

If it won’t make the setpoint, check the reed valves. There are O rings, not gaskets, so you can put it right back together. Those reed petals break all the time. The rings could be trashed, but I doubt it.

Thanks for the info, I’ll pull it off and see what it looks like.
