I bought a used Puma 240V 80 gal tank air compressor. The motor doesn’t kick on until the pressure drops to something like 80 psi, this feels low to me. I’ve never worked on an air compressor before. Some googling talks about turning an adjustment screw, but the one I have doesn’t look like the pictures.
This is what a typical switch looks like. most times this will also be used to turn the the compressor on and off, and to adjust the cut in nd cut out pressures.
Find that switch on yours, remove the cover and take a pic and post it. Also the brand name of the switch will help.
Furnas is the brand of the switch. When I take the cover off there are two adjustment screws, I cannot see any markings as to which is high and which is low pressure.
The adjustment schematic is inside the top cover. You may need the higher-pressure version. That one you have is designed for 95 turns on and 125 off. They make one that is 125 on, 175 off.
This is my first experience with more industrial-level air compressors and it is nice to have the info, I didn’t even think to look under the cover. Is 85psi - 115psi good enough to run a CF Pro?
85 psi is adequate but it is always a concern of what the pressure is downstream when the air is being used. Most of us like about 90 PSI to the back of our plasma cutters.
You want to turn this screw clockwise. Turn it about 1/2 a turn at a time. Release some pressure in the tank until the compressor kicks on. You will get a feel for how much turning of the screw is necessary.
You probably already have done this but I always set my regulator, nearest the compressor tank, at 95 or 100. Most tools don’t need more than that unless you are using a heavy duty impact driver/wrench.
