Air Compressor Comparisons

Hey thats great…

Has anyone done the math considering what the cut-45 requires for air and what the smallest (but 100% functional) compressor that would work is? I see all these 60 gallon and now 80 gallon compressors. If I could run my compressor on a 120v plug, it would be great, more mobile and cheaper.

really comes down to how long you’ll be cutting on each job.

I have been cutting with my table for about a month and half now and I have to mention adequate flow is a must but air quality is just as important. My opinion is these inline coalescent or desiccant air dryers are not the answer. First, question is how is the air where you live? Dry or Humid climate? I live in a “summer” normal climate and my next purchase will be a refrigeratIed air dryer. I didn’t come to this decision on my own. I was complaining about cut quality to a co-worker who has been in the commercial plasma cutting business for a long time who sorta chuckled and said without hesitation “it’s your air” He went on to say that auto vents on the compressor drain, drip legs on the the air lines and refrigerated air dryers are a must. Anyway cutting out 14 or 16 gauge sheet metal isn’t a problem but when cutting plate the problems really start… at least for me they did.

My air compressor arrived yesterday afternoon. Man is that thing heavy. I need to get it bolted down and install the lead hose. Then install the wiring. Almost ready to start testing my table!

It is now the afternoon and I have wired and bolted down the compressor. I ran the break-in for 30 minutes per the manufacturer. After re-installing the drain petcock I timed how long to fill an empty 80 gallon tank to the 155 lb psi. It took 6 minutes and 10 seconds. That should more than enough air for the plasma cutter(RazorWeld CUT 45)!.

It takes 65 seconds to go from 90 psi back to 155 psi , back to a full tank.

Just changed oil in my 15-year old 60-gal Campbell-Hausfeld, in prep for the new toy. Never a day’s problem with that unit. Only repair was a quick replacement of the pressure switch (of which I had a spare in the shop). Oh yeah, she’s noisy!

Glad to here it went well.

Unfortunately I received a second delay notice stating that now my Quincy compressor won’t ship until 8/17 (estimated). Totally not acceptable, they should know manufacturer stock before they sell an item and say in stock, ships in 7-10 days.

Unless they are offering a big discount the order will be canceled.

Funny how you can review companies and products only to find out nobody cares about people’s inconvenience and only getting in to their wallet. A sad place this country has become.

It’s the times we live in sadly! Some people call it “progress” , I beg to differ.

So I replied to the email telling them I am canceling the order, magically now at 8:04 pm PST I just received an email saying the order is partially shipped, ie the maintenance kit that is a required purchase to extend the warranty (bs in itself). But no response to the cancellation.

I’m now past distrust with them and moving on to the down right scandalous implication, but we’ll see how they handle it when I talk to a real person Monday.

Funny… my Kobalt leaked at an oring at the pressure switch from the factory. I could hear it hiss and the guage wasn’t coming up, but tank pressure was. Just a little dangerous you would think. Had to disassemble and replace o-ring with something fatter to fit in what looks like a 3d printed part.
Works good now but, did I mention it was new…

Aircompressordirect.com follow up.

My opinion is again, worth what you pay for it. Don’t do business with this company! As I said before after I canceled the order and they quickly shipped the maintenance kit (within hours) and 5 days later submitted my loan with Affirm, their online financing I applied for the purchase. Now Affirm is saying until they post a full refund I am liable for my first payment starting next month.

Now there is no way they will get a penny from me. When I spoke to both entities and informed them since they regularly do business in California that I can sue them in small claims court here, and also informed them because they are doing business across state lines I can file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission I was quickly transferred to supervisors that said in no uncertain terms they would take care of the problem.

A quick look at the BBB shows aircompressorsdirtect.com has a pattern of selling items they cannot supply or are out of stock and delays like this are fairly common. What they did to me is down right scandalous.

This totally sucks! I have 10+ hours in researching my purchase, ordering it as an in stock item only to get a message of a delay days after it was to be shipped, then another notice saying there was an “estimated” ship date in late August.

So shopping again, budget raised again. Thought about the bigger 2 stage Quincy QT-54 only to find horror stories about the quality control, cheap valves that break and a switch that can’t handle the amps it runs at. Is there a decent compressor out there under $1500? So far it doesn’t look like it.

UGH!

I am not posting this to disagree at all about your experience. I ordered the Powermate 80 gallon single stage computer from them and had no problems. I know that doesn’t help you but I had a good experience with them. I would assume there are people who have had problems with an Amazon order but I will continue to buy from Amazon. I guess each of us have to approach the vendors we will work with based on their own personal experience. As I said earlier I have no affiliation with AirCompressorDirect.com but found a great deal and jumped on it. I am happy with my experience. I’m sorry you had a horrible experience!

Understood. If this was their norm they would not survive but it’s interesting to see how a company acts when things don’t go as planned. I don’t put too much stock in the BBB because it has become a pay for play deal but there are many recent complaints about them.

I’m very glad (jealous maybe) you got something that works for you as I’m sure many have from them.

It appears companies like AirCompressorsDirect.com are a “clearing-house”. They use drop shipment of products to make their money and personally stock nothing. Hopefully they are displaying the information related to “in stock” quantities as relayed by the manufacturers and not just making up numbers. Customers are willing to “forgive” mistakes if the company will just be up front when a problem arises. It should not take a threat to get them to do the right thing.

Another issue is when companies send the “Shipped” emails. Often it is when the shipping label is printed and NOT when the item is put on the delivery truck. As long as it is only a day or 2 before it goes out it does not deceive the buyer. When it is not actually put on the truck for another week it borders on dishonesty.

The problem is the the drop shipper often has to go by the information supplied to them by distributor and so we never really know where the problem originated. The real issue is does the drop shipper get out in front of the problem and resolve it in a timely manner.

I love my new air compressor. It is relatively quiet. Only takes 6 minutes to fill from an empty tank and 70 seconds to refill from 90 psi. So far I could not be happier with my purchase. I highly recommend the PowerMate 80 gallon single stage compressor. It meets my needs but might not meet another users needs. Coming from a 30 gallon air compressor to an 80 gallon air compressor is like night and day!

I’m a Crossfire Pro , owner in waiting! I just ordered an Eastwood 30/60 Rotary Screw Compressor. I did this after consulting with the Razorweld help line.
At $1700 the price is up there. But it’s quiet and should be easily capable of handling my jobs.

You’re going to really like that compressor. Your ears will love it more, it’s super quiet comparatively speaking.

I’ve had mine for about a year and a half now, awesome machine.

You should consider all the details of an air compressor before buying one so read all the details before from 80 Gallon Top air compressor.

I finally ordered an air compressor. I read every acomp thread here that I could find. I was really leaning towards the Craftsman $900 11cfm unit at Lowes for quite some time. But, the more I researched I learned that I may need some more air juice for the blast cabinet that I want to get from HF. Interestingly, last week when I went to Lowes they had the $1999 80G Craftsman clearanced to $799! But, none in stock…go figure. Someone got lucky.

After hours and hours of YT videos and research I landed on the Quincy 3.5HP 60G 14 CFM from aircompressorsdirect.com (Quincy Q13160VQ 3.5-HP 60-Gallon Belt Drive Single Stage Air Compressor 230V 1-Phase). It was on sale $200 off too and includes the maintenance and warranty kit. I also picked up the elec. drain system and install kit. I am going to add the M60, a water trap, and the HF refrigerated dryer and be done with it.

Unfortunately, I also need to place this unit in a shed yet to be built in my sideyard. I don’t want to deal with the noise and I need every inch I can spare in the two car garage for hands on working tools.

Thanks for all the great threads and information that you shared.
