Sparks but no arc jasic viper cut 30i

I have a jasic cut 30i. I spark ive disassembled the torch and checked for shorts. I have replaced all consumables and tried all of the connections to make sure that there is nothing loose or corroded. Ive taken the cover off of the machine and looked around there is nothing unusual. When I pull the torch trigger everything operates as it should but no arc. If i touch the torch to the table or grounded steel I get the smallest whisper of a spark but not an arc. It reached a dip and the torch stopped cutting and toasted a electrode so i changed it and went back to cutting and it wouldnt cut again. machine and everything is set the same and is operating like normal. Im stumped. Who knows whats going on?

Welcome to the forum.

Your description of the problem needs more context/detail for us to understand. When you couple these two sentences together, it is surprising because you led with the idea that you had no spark.

Here are a few questions that would be helpful for us to understand:

  1. Have you ever had success cutting out a test gcode sample? (such as this)
    image
    Square Test 16 ga.nc (1.3 KB)
  2. Does your cutter work when using the hand torch when not connected to the table?
  3. It sounds like the event that caused you the problems was when the torch collided with the metal. Is this correct?
  4. Have you checked the wire connections, especially the torch on/off?
  5. You have this topic listed under CrossFire. Is that the actual table you have? If so, do you have an active z-axis or is is manual adjustment?

Please send us a picture of your torch mounted on the machine.

Most Viper Cut 30 came with a Chinese S45 style torch. But I have seen some with other torch’s. A picture of the torch and consumables your using would help.

Now that being said do you just want to repair the Viper 30 now that you have a Primeweld Cut 60?

Yes I’ve cut many pieces with this machine.

Yes it has had a few collisions but that’s not what caused it to stop cutting it just stopped after changing consumables (which I have changed many different times)

I’ve opened the torch and there aren’t any shorts I’ve also opened the machine and everything is fine in there as well.

I have a legacy crossfire table. The original one no nothing extra except for a water table, which is why I checked a short in the torch but there is no short in the torch. The torch looks super clean.

When the tip of the torch touches steel and I pull the trigger, it will have a little tiny whisper of a spark. If I pull the trigger at normal torch height it doesn’t do anything except for run like normal. Just not cutting anything both on and off of the table.

All of the wiring for the torch on and off is fine. I rewired it and resoldered it just to make sure there were any loose connections so I am stumped

The torch doesn’t work whether it’s connected to the table or not. As far as an arc that will cut anything. If it’s connected to the table and I touch it to steal, it’ll do a little tiny spark. If it’s not connected to the table and I touch it to steel, it’ll do a little tiny spark, but it won’t create a cutting Arc

It’s mounted held by the nozzle on an l-shaped torch, not a straight machine. Torch

I’ll take some video later today if it’ll let me upload it

I’d like to repair it and sell it to a buddy of mine or keep it as a backup. Plus I’m balls deep in a cutting job with no plasma

Remove the torch from the table. Remove all the consumables but the electrode. Push the electrode in and see if it springs back out, if that is OK then. Install all new consumables, electrode, swirl ring, cutting tip and retaining cup. Turn the plasma cutter on and pull the trigger and see if it fires.

I’ve got my primeweld cut 60 set up and cutting great!
Ill try what you’re saying about pushing the electrode but other than pushing on the electrode I have changed everything a few times thinking it could be faulty consumables or a bad connection.

Clarify to us that you now have it working. My recommendation is NOT to buy cheap Amazon or Plasmadyn consumables. Whatever you save is not worth the metal you are screwing up.
@mechanic416 sells quality consumables and is here to help you when things aren’t going so well with that table. Just my two cents again.
Note, that whole plastic bag thing is not going to end well. Trust me.

Plug the torch from the Primeweld into the Cut 30 and see if it fires. If it does then its something in the torch, if not its the plasma cutter.
