How many Crossfire's have been received? Should i buy one?

Hi,

I’ve been following the Crossfire development for months and am very keen to get one, but I’m still put off by the late shipping dates, lack of independent reviews and feedback. Can anyone help?

All things considered you are getting a full running system for less than $1500. Do it!

The shipping delays are pretty typical of pre-order or crowdfunded development projects. The Crossfires weren’t bad at all - not like the multi-year delays that sometimes come with these projects.

The batch 1 units appear to just be arriving at people’s doorsteps so there hasn’t been a chance for independent reviews. I think your best bet is to watch the forum.

If you wait for some of the Youtubers to do reviews you may find yourself shut out of the reduced pricing for early orders. That’s the cost of pre-orders – get in early for less $ but suffer delays or get in after the reviews are in and the production runs are stable so there’s certainty in the product & delivery and the price goes up. All depends on what’s important to you. I wouldn’t have considered a CNC plasma (I’m a laser & CNC router guy) if I hadn’t come across the pre-order. The discounts took it down to a price I was willing to risk and I don’t have a huge need for it today (but I’d like it ) .

There’s quite a few folks up and running now. Check out this thread: First test cut using a Thermal dynamics 60i

Also it looks like a customer posted some cutting footage on their instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/p/BlzTTOTBuJj/

I’m very happy with my purchase. Been cutting like crazy since Friday. Highly recommend.

My machine works great. I had minimal CAD experience and no experience with cnc controllers and found it pretty easy to follow along with the tutorials and start cutting.

The cnc table itself is solid and tracks smoothly. When I first set it up one axis bound up a bit but it only needed some lubrication. Company support called me shortly after I sent the email to trouble shoot that small issue. Very impressed I got a call and not just an email. Company cares about the product they are putting out.

I got my box today for what i assume is the plasma table…it says 1 of 1 was shipped. I’m assuming that the water table wasn’t actually shipped because I would assume that would also be in a bigger box so did anyone get one?

And you didn’t open it? Wow! Mine’s going to be about 30 seconds in the garage before it gets ripped open like a kid at Christmas :grinning:

Thats what we like to hear! Did you assemble yours yet?

I was at work… I will try to assemble it tonight

I received mine on Thursday. The box was beat up pretty good, but when unpacked everything look good. Haven’t had time to assemble it yet. May be a while. So much going on. I will keep you posted.
I did receive both table and water pan on the same day.
Thanks
Dick

Thanks for all these replies people, Great to hear more about the finished product!!

mine will be here Thursday!

I plan to get some pictures out of mine soon, but these things are on point. They could have easily hacked crap together in the control box to get these working. Their break out board is made specifically for them, probably for good QC and such. But the soldering and wiring in the control box is put together as well or better than many professional CNC machines I have seen and used. There was no corner cutting…

I received my package and I was rather impressed with the packaging… my only suggestion would be to eliminate the popcorn used in the packaging because it’s such a hassle to contend with while opening without making a mess. I felt like there was a lot of care that went into everything including the way all the bags were labeled. The unit built up pretty quickly in an evening and I look forward to trying it out this weekend

Hi @Tin, thank you for the feedback and kind words. We strongly desired to not use peanuts just because we know how frustrating they can be to deal with- but they do a terrific job of protecting the gantry assembly. Were going to look at some alternatives such as molded foam in the future.

We typically like to install the y-axis rail so that the cable support tube is on the same side as the torch. I think it will work fine in your case, but if not, you may want to flip the upper rail around.

Is that a nice way to say “we noticed you put it together wrong”?
