Feed rate change trigerring error

I have heard that said many times here over the past 3 years

Hey Kwikfab, you may (or may not) be interested to know that I have been going through the Hypertherm Pierce Delay settings, and, with the help of AI, have discovered that the settings indeed don’t have a linear relationship. They follow what is known as a Saturating Exponential (!), where the initial part of the curve rises very steeply, then in mid-range begins to flatten out then finally becomes virtually flat (asymptotic).
As it turns out, Langmuirs bottom line of 0.5 seconds intersects the curve at (you guessed it) 3/16"!!!
So you were absolutely right when you tried to get it through my thick head to use 0.5 for everything up to 3/16 after which only small increases (where the curve begins to flatten out) are necessary.
What you have discovered empirically through years of experience, has been borne out by the math.
Here’s to you,
Cheers.
By the way, you were also right about my cut and pierce heights. I measured them and they had CAMed in over high by 25thou!

No one knows everything that’s for sure, but we do try to share what little we do know in order to help others coming after!

Like you said, it took some of us learning (for me, through trial by fire )

We can only hope to help others save themselves steel, time, and frustration when we can.
