External SD Port and Spring Plungers on Clamps

I finally decided to update the software/ re-etch the SD card. I was thinking about what a PITA it is to open the cabinet every time, so I found an SD card bulkhead mount plug on Amazon for 15 bucks.

The other mod I made was to install long nose spring plungers on the clamps, so they are pushed out when loosened. This mod really helps when loading long punches. I realized after installing 2 on the first clamp that one centered plunger is sufficient to hold the clamp out.

The McMaster-Carr part number for the spring plunger is 8495A25.

I also have to say that the new software version seems to react more quickly when navigating the menus.

Great idea with the plungers! Will do the same.

@motorhedmike Please let me know which one you purchased. I want to know how long the ribbon needs to be. They, I mean, all, are only coming from China, with a 20-day shipping delay. I think it’s a fantastic idea. McMaster Carr has my bolts arriving tomorrow.

This is the one I bought, but the cable was too short to mount it on the front of the cabinet. On the other hand, having it mounted on the left side keeps it hidden.
