CutControl Version 24.1.1 Release - Probing Fixes for V2 Touch Probes!

Hi All!

We are excited to finally announce the release of CutControl Version 24.1.1 for Windows. This release features the RUN FROM LINE and MULTIPLE PROGRAM LOADING features that we included in the 23.1.1-Beta, as well as some BIG probing and tool setting accuracy/repeatability upgrades. When paired with our new V2 probes, the entire probing workflow is a huge gamechanger! Below is a quick overview.

Probing:

  • As many of you know, we have upgraded our probes to the V2 Touch Probe. This is a completely new design that greatly improves the accuracy and repeatability of the touch probe on MR-1. We are also offering a discounted V1 to V2 Retrofit Kit so that existing customers can DIY the upgrade themselves. For more information on the new probes, please check out this new video where we demonstrate the improvements.
  • We have also made several software changes that provide additional probing accuracy and repeatability. PLEASE NOTE: If you are running the new V2 Probe, you must have the latest CutControl v24.1.1 installed to utlize these fixes.
  • The new V2 Probe paired with the v24.1.1 software upgrade is capable of 0.0015" accuracy and 0.0005" repeabitlity when everything on the probe is assembled and aligned correctly.

Tool Setting:

  • Software upgrades in v24.1.1 improve tool setter accuracy by ~0.0007" compared to previous releases.

Were there any bug fixes as well? Such as the reduced feedrate and the g54/55 issues?

@Snowfarmer69 great question! Yes several bug fixes have been implemented, including the spindle/feed rate override bug. The G54/G55/etc is not really a bug per say; our controller defaults to G54 whenever a program or cycle is completed. We agree that this can be annoying if you are doing a lot of probing in other coordinate systems and have to remember to toggle the DRO. We’ve already started working on change this behavior and it will be part of the 24.1.2 release.

I rebuilt two V1 probes this afternoon, and all went well. The conversion was easy if you have the miniature allen wrenches. They worked perfectly. I also got a complete one, which passed. So far, so good. I will run some test blocks tomorrow morning.

I’ll have to get around to updating CC this week some time. Good to read there were fixes and updates for sure. Keep it up LS guys!

Mike, there was talk of doing more frequent, smaller updates (instead of large, less frequent updates), which I think is the better way to go. There was an old thread about requests for features, software changes, etc… I think you guys should revisit that.

Youll always have crazy requests from people who want things that arent practical, but there are minor improvements that could be made pretty easily without tying your programmers up for hundreds of man-hours. Its a big deal to the end customer and most companies overlook it because they are looking forward at new projects and not backwards at old product improvements.

Yes sir, that is exactly the plan! v24.1.2 is already in progress and includes some small nice-to-haves. One of them is the WCO enhancement that was mentioned above.

I tested out the new probes today. Just cut some brass 2.70 contours on a 2.75 x 3 brass rod.
The final finished size was 2.7005 with all the probes but 1. After a minute or so, one of my rebuilt probes blanked out the screen. I’m sure I screwed something up in the rebuilding.

I am having an issue with the V2 probe, everytime I connect the probe it disconnects my machine from cut control. Once I unplug it the machine reconnects. I checked my software and everything is up to date. Any one else have this issue?

Email them. I bought one complete probe and two kits.
One of the two rebuilt kits does the same thing. If you email them, they will replace it. I triple-checked it after it failed to work, but it was assembled correctly.
Now, my other two work great.

Well that makes me feel better. The rebuild was pretty simple but I thought i did something wrong. Thanks for the help.

I always have a backup for just this type of emergency. You never know when or where…

Hey @Panzerx13x - if you plug your touch probe in without the probe mounted in the spindle, do you still have a disconnect problem?

I will go try it now.

Mine would do it the second you plugged it in.

Ya the instant i plug it in to the port it disconnects. My v1 probe worked the day before so I have a feeling its not the port either

You very likely have a short between the 5V and GND on your probe. This could be from the PCB itself, or possibly an issue with assembly (or wiring but since your V1 worked this is less likely). The probe housing gets energized with 5V, so if GND is touching somehow that would explain the short. I would recommend that you reach out to our tech support and @langmuir-jake can help you isolate where the issue is at, so that you can fix it or get the parts that you need from us to get it to work. If you have a multimeter that can measure continuity, this will really speed things up!

I started the firmware update about an hour ago and my software still shows “updating firmware, please wait” pretty sure I waited long enough. Should I reboot the machine or reboot the computer or both or just leave it?

It should only take a few seconds or so. You are talking about the machine firmware. The actual board…
