Cut speed on 1/2" steel with compressed air

What is the cut speed on 1/2" steel using compressed air.

@Rico383 welcome to the fourm.

What are you using to cut the 1/2" steel?

As Erik said, we really need to know the plasma cutter you are using to give a more meaningful starting point. And we say “starting point” because you would want to do some test cuts first.

Before you waste your consumables and metal, make sure that the torch height is precisely set because that cut will really be testing the limits of your machine if it is a 45A. And it is very important to have the work lead attached to the plate you are cutting and the clamp should be on shiny metal (not rust/scale).

I see that the newer cut charts even with Hypertherm SYNC 45 are not showing cut thickness greater than 1/4” when using 45A consumables.

For an example, this is the cut chart for the non-SYNC version of Hypertherm 45XP

Notice the speed is about 18 with a voltage of 141. I have cut some 1/2” with my 45XP and these settings worked perfectly.
