Custom MR1 Chip Guard Files

Hi Everyone-

Please find attached CAD files for a custom chip guard to be used on the MR1. The clearance front and rear when in the front most and rear most position is about 1/2”. If you would like more clearance just edit the STEP file. I’ve also attached a STEP File for a tapered spacer block to be used between the chip guard and the Y-Axis bearing block. That should be printed on an FDM printer. It took about ten minutes to drill and tap, then install the chip guard with three 3/4” 10-32 caphead screws and a washer.

Youre the hero we need but not the one we deserve.

Nice to see folks using the machine CAD model!

Riffing on this one, I added some sheet metal bends for stiffness and top covering.

Looks like one of these would cost about $65 from SendCutSend in 304SS, 1.2mm thickness, including these bends.

Amos-

That design is better for sure. I like it. The design I made was $85 for both shipped from S2S in SS but this is worth the extra money.

The tapered interface part does take some tuning because the left and right sides of those castings were different on mine, so I needed to adjust by about 1/2deg to get both the shields to be vertical. Please add whatever you like best to your model so others can benefit from it. My onshape copy of your model is modified a bit to be more accurate. Perhaps you would be ok allowing me to edit the original one with you? Reach out and we can discuss.

This is the machine with shields installed. Its only clean because I degreased it and haven’t used it since, so don’t judge me:
